Globally, the data show a 42% drop in new foreign investment in 2020, from $1.5 trillion in 2019 to $895 billion a year, which experts call a collapse. By the end of 2020, the volume of foreign direct investment was more than 30% lower than after the global financial crisis in 2009 and at the level of the 1990s.
In the EU, foreign direct investments fell by 2/3 – from 373 billion dollars in 2019 to 11 billion dollars.
Investments are expected to remain weak this year as well.
