Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
China harshly denounced the warship United States of America, The USS Curtis Wilbur, which entered South China Sea without permission on Thursday (20/5).
The Southern China Military Command stated that USS Curtis Wilbur sailed in the waters of the South China Sea near the Paracel Islands without permission.
Quoted Reuters, China considers the maneuvers of the US warship violating its country’s sovereignty and threatens security and stability in the region.
Until now, China still insists on claiming nearly 90 percent of the territory in the South China Sea, including the Paracel Islands. However, China’s claims overlap with the territorial waters of a number of Southeast Asian countries.
China claims that it has deployed warships and warplanes to spy on USS Curtis Wilbur’s activities.
Before entering the South China Sea, USS Curtis Wilbur had also infuriated Beijing for crossing the Taiwan Strait.
The Arleigh Burke-class missile destroyer operated by the US Navy’s 7th Fleet crossed the Taiwan Strait on Tuesday.
“The US decision sends the wrong omen to the pro-independence Taiwan forces, disturbing the situation and jeopardizing peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait,” said a spokesman for China’s Armed Forces Eastern Fleet Command.
On the other hand, the US insists that shipping its ships is legal because it is in accordance with the laws of the world sea.
“The voyage of ships across the Taiwan Strait demonstrates the US pledge to an open and free Indo-Pacific region. The US Armed Forces will continue to fly, sail and operate anywhere as long as it is under international law,” the US Navy statement said.
