China evacuates hundreds of its citizens from Afghanistan

BEIJING – State media China reports Beijing sent flights to bring 210 of its citizens home from Afghanistan . It was done when the military United States of America (US) is preparing to leave the country and the security situation is getting worse.

The Global Times newspaper published by China’s ruling Communist Party said the Xiamen Airlines flight departed July 2 from the capital Kabul and landed in the central province of Hubei. The airline confirmed the report in a post on its Weibo account, a Twitter-like social media platform, but did not provide additional details.

The Global Times and other reports say 22 of those on board the plane tested positive for COVID-19, although those figures do not appear in the National Health Commission’s daily report on new cases. Al Araby, Friday (9/7/2021).

Chinese companies have invested in Afghanistan’s mining and infrastructure, but those assets appear to be increasingly under threat because Taliban captured a large amount of territory, which might put Kabul in danger.

US President Joe Biden said the country’s military mission in Afghanistan will end on August 31st. He said speed is salvation as the US seeks to end a nearly 20-year war.

“We didn’t go to Afghanistan to build the nation,” Biden said in a speech to renew his administration’s ongoing efforts to defuse the US war.

“Afghan leaders must unite and move towards the future,” he added.
