The corresponding statement was made by the diplomatic adviser to the Chinese leader, Wang Yi, during a meeting with EU chief diplomat Josep Borrell.
The Chinese diplomat noted that Beijing and the EU should strengthen communication, mutual trust and deepen cooperation. In his opinion, the bloc should not “doubt” and, moreover, should not encourage deviating from agreements.
Wang Yi reiterated that China will continue to play a “constructive role” in the search for a political settlement on the Ukraine issue and “promote peace talks.”
China and the EU
It should be noted that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine, China has not condemned Moscow, but continues to strengthen economic relations with Russia.
The EU has repeatedly noted that China should influence Russia and help resolve the war in Ukraine. The President of France, the Prime Minister of Spain and the leadership of the European Union visited Beijing, and during the talks with Xi Jinping discussed Ukraine.
However, not all EU countries support the position of bringing Europe closer to China. For example, the countries of Eastern Europe oppose this and emphasize that China supports the Russian Federation.
