China draws conclusions from Messi anger (Philip FONG)
The Chinese anger over Lionel Messi has reached the next level and is now even affecting the Argentine national team. The football world champion’s promotional tour in China from March 18th to 26th, during which test matches against Nigeria and Ivory Coast (Cote d’Ivoire) were planned, was canceled by the hosts.
“After a review, Beijing does not currently plan to host the match in which Lionel Messi was scheduled to take part,” the Beijing Football Association, which organizes soccer in the Chinese capital, said in a statement on Saturday.
The match against Nigeria in Hangzhou was canceled on Friday. For reasons “known to everyone, according to the relevant authorities, the conditions for the event are not met,” said the sports authority in Hangzhou.
Superstar Messi, who is currently on tour in China with his club Inter Miami, was apparently injured in the duel with a local selection in Hong Kong last Sunday and therefore did not play. The world footballer and his club caused great outrage among fans and authorities.
