China is sending six warships to the Middle East as tensions rise in the region amid fears that the Israeli crisis could escalate into a full-scale war, British tabloid The Sun reports.
Following the United States, China also sent its ships to Israeli shores, the newspaper writes.
“Six Chinese warships have reportedly been deployed to the Middle East as tensions over Israel escalate. China’s 44th Naval Escort Task Force participated in joint exercises with Oman in the area,” the article said.
It is noted that the Chinese army task force left the port of Muscat the day before, October 21. It includes the destroyer Zibo, frigate Jingzhou and integrated supply ship Qiandaohu, all of which found themselves in the Middle East at a time of heightened tension.
Previously Chinese leader Xi Jinping said a two-state solution to create an independent Palestine is the “fundamental solution” to the war between Israel and Hamas. The US has also moved a powerful arsenal to the Middle East. Washington says these steps are aimed at deterrence, not provocation, The Sun points out.
