A new skirmish has erupted between China and the United States over the war in Ukraine. Beijing indeed accuses Washington of being at the origin of the conflict by massively delivering military equipment to kyiv, while the United States accuses China of providing assistance to Moscow.
The war in Ukraine is at the heart of a new showdown between China and the United States and will be on the menu of discussions this Sunday between the Chinese administration and Antony Blinken, the first American secretary of state to visit China. for almost five years. Beijing indeed accuses Washington of being responsible for the conflict through its plan to deliver arms to kyiv. Last week, Joe Biden announced the shipment of 31 Abrams tanks to Ukraine while several European countries took turns delivering Leopard tanks to support kyiv against the Russian invasion.
A game of ping pong
A wave of support to which the Chinese government tastes very little. “If the United States really wants a quick end to the crisis and really cares about the safety and lives of the Ukrainian people, it should stop sending weapons to profit from the war. It should work responsibly to calm the situation as soon as possible,” said Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
For its part, the American administration accuses Chinese public companies of assisting Russia militarily and economically. From Sunday, it is therefore a game of ping-pong that will be played in Beijing between the two great powers. For his part, Chinese President Xi Jinping could visit Moscow during the month of February.
