BEIJING – China demanded clarification from Kiev after the President’s advisor Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, Mykhailo Podolyak, said the authorities in Beijing and New Delhi were not smart enough to know what their countries’ national interests really were.
Podolyak said the two major Asian countries have “low intellectual potential,” in an interview with the Vlast vs Vaschenko channel published Tuesday on YouTube.
Talking about increasing cooperation between Beijing and New Delhi with Moscow amidst the conflict in Ukraine, he claimed that China and India did not analyze the consequences of the steps they took.
Furthermore, Podolyak accused China, India and also Turkey of “making money” from the conflict between Moscow and Kiev.
“Chinese authorities believe that doing so is in their country’s national interests, but Beijing would be better off distancing itself from Russia because it is an old-fashioned country that is dragging China into unnecessary conflicts,” he said.
When asked to comment on Podolyak’s statement at a briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said: “I don’t know the background of this person’s statement, but he should clarify it,” as quoted by RTWednesday (13/9/2023)
Mao reminded reporters that Beijing has always maintained a “responsible” attitude towards the conflict in Ukraine, constantly calling for a cessation of hostilities and a political resolution to the crisis.
Podolyak himself later took to X, formerly Twitter, to explain what he meant by questioning the intellectual capabilities of China and India. He claims his comments were taken out of context by Russian media.
