Cyber weapons would allow satellites to be controlled, which could render them unsuitable for data transmission or wartime surveillance.
China is developing cyber weapons to destroy enemy satellites. This is stated in secret US intelligence documents, which were recently leaked in the US, according to the Financial Times.
The US estimates that China’s desire to “disable, exploit, or hijack” enemy satellites is a major component of efforts to control information, which the country considers a key “area of warfare.”
It is noted that Chinese cyber attacks are aimed at simulating the signals that enemy satellites receive from their operators, which leads to complete seizure of control over them or failure at decisive moments in the battle.
According to the document, such cyber capabilities would allow China to “seize control of the satellite, making it ineffective for maintaining communications, weapons or intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems.”
Experts believe that China is seeking to disable the ability of satellites to communicate with each other, transmit signals and orders to weapons systems, or send back visual and intercepted electronic data.
Taiwan is now reportedly striving to build a communications infrastructure capable of withstanding an attack from China. Taiwan is attracting investors to build its own satellite provider and is also experimenting with non-geostationary satellite receivers at 700 locations around Taiwan to ensure data transmission in the event of war or disaster.
Earlier it was reported that China will hold five military exercises amid tensions with the United States.
Recall that Taiwan will buy hundreds of missiles from the United States to repel possible Chinese attacks.
