China’s Ministry of Commerce said on Wednesday that the country’s anti-dumping measure against spirits imports from the European Union (EU) is a legitimate trade remedy that is fully consistent with World Trade Organization (WTO) rules.

The decision announced on Tuesday to take anti-dumping measures against EU imports of spirits was based on legal investigations carried out at the request of the domestic industry, the ministry said in a statement.

In order to defend the legitimate rights and interests of China’s electric vehicle industry, China has submitted a strong statement to the WTO and initiated the WTO dispute settlement procedure against the relevant anti-subsidy measures, the ministry said.

China has always opposed the abuse of trade defense measures and called on the EU to immediately correct its wrong practices and work with China to protect the overall economic and trade situation between the two sides.
