China Confirms First Case of New Variant of Corona Virus

Suara.com – As a country that is considered to have succeeded in controlling the Covid-19 pandemic, this time China’s latest news has confirmed its first case of infection a new variant of the corona virus.

Even though more than 50 countries, including China, have closed flights to and from the UK, this new variant continues to spread in various countries.

Quoting Channel News Asia, Friday (1/1/2021), the patient infected with this new variant of the corona virus was a 23-year-old woman in Shanghai who had just arrived in England on December 14, 2020.

This fact was revealed by the Chinese Center for Disease Control or CDC in a study released on Wednesday, December 30, 2020.

The woman was treated at home when she experienced mild symptoms of Covid-19 upon arrival. Experts immediately carried out genetic sequencing of the corona virus samples in the woman.

After that it was discovered that the patient had a different strain of the virus from that in Shanghai and Wuhan. After being tested, experts confirmed that this woman had the B117 strain that had spread in Britain in October 2020.

Meanwhile, the British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, revealed that this new strain was 70 percent faster to spread than the previous variant.

But until now there has been no research evidence if this new variant causes the severity of Covid-19, or there is no evidence that this new variant has a greater risk of causing mortality.
