Beijing: A 41-year-old man in Jiangsu province, China, was confirmed as the first case of infection with the H10N3 variant avian influenza in the human body. Originally from Zhenjiang city, the man was hospitalized on April 28 after developing a fever and other symptoms.
“He was diagnosed with H10N3 on May 28,” China’s National Health Commission (NHC) said The Sydney Morning Herald on Tuesday, June 1, 2021.
H10N3 is a variant bird flu those with low or less harmful pathogenic properties. The NHC said the spread of the variant to the wider community was very low.

Currently, the man infected with H10N3 is relatively stable and can be discharged from the hospital soon. Tracing of the man’s closest contacts did not confirm any additional cases of H10N3.
Variants of avian flu have emerged in China, and sometimes sporadically infect humans, usually among those working on farms.
Since the H7N9 variant killed around 300 people in 2016-2017, so far there have been no significant cases of bird flu in humans.
“So far, no H10N3 infection in the human body has been reported globally,” said the NHC.
Last February, the World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed that it had received news about cases of bird flu infection to humans from Russian authorities. The Red Bear Country said its scientists had detected cases of bird flu transmission from birds to humans.
The H5N8 avian influenza variant has been found in Europe, South Asia, East Asia, the Middle East and North Africa in recent months, with no cases of human infection detected until reports from Russia.
