BEIJING: China has conducted military exercises around Taiwan in response to Taiwan’s vice president’s visit to the United States. China described the visit as collusion between separatists and foreign powers.
On his way to Paraguay, Taiwan Vice President William Lai visited San Francisco and New York City in the United States. China says that Taiwan is its territory and has no right to have relations with foreign countries.
In a statement, Xi Yi, spokesman for China’s Eastern Theater Commandant, said warplanes and warships participated in the exercise. He said that the purpose of the exercise was to assess the combat readiness of the army. Video footage of the military exercise was released online.
Soldiers running, military boats and fighter jets can be seen in the footage.
