China Condemns US Stops by Taiwanese Government Officials

This Thursday, the Chinese government warned that the repeated stops on US soil by members of the Taiwanese government harm the interests of the island’s citizens. This same week they condemned the stops in the United States of the Vice President of Taiwan, William Lai. The representative of the Executive of Taiwan was going to Paraguay for the swearing in of his new presidency of Santiago Peña.

Taiwanese Defense Ministry spokesman Sun Li-fang noted that no large-scale maneuvers or exercises by the Chinese Army have been detected so far. In addition, the Vice President of Taiwan is expected to make another stop in San Francisco before returning to his country.

Pan Xianzhang, vice director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said the consequences of these separatist efforts in Taiwan lead to cooperation with outside forces. For China, the collaboration between the ruling Democratic Progressive Party and external forces could lead Taiwan into a dangerous abyss that also threatens the peace and stability of the region..

The Chinese government condemned the stopover made in the United States by the Vice President of Taiwan. According to a statement from the Foreign Ministry, the Chinese authorities will take “strong measures to safeguard their sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

Vice President Lai arrived at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport, located in the city of Luque and serving Asuncion, Paraguay, where he was received by Deputy Foreign Minister Raúl Silvero Silvagni and the mayor of the Paraguayan capital, Óscar Rodríguez.

Lai made a stopover in New York, and after learning about the itinerary of the Taiwanese vice presidentChina said in a statement released by its Foreign Ministry that it “firmly opposes any form of official contact between the United States and Taiwan.”

For Beijing, Lai’s stopover in the United States is a provocation with the intention of causing trouble, which qualifies as an excuse to participate in political activities.
