Ministry of Foreign Affairs China condemned the meeting between the Speakers of the DPR United States of America Kevin McCarthy and Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen in California, USA. Beijing says it will take firm action!
Reported by the news agency AFPThursday (6/4/2023), President of Taiwan met with McCarthy and a delegation of US politicians from the Republican and Democrat parties during a stop in the United States on Wednesday (5/4) local time after visiting Guatemala and Belize.
“Responding to the grossly wrong act of collusion between the United States and Taiwan, China will take firm and effective measures to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the ministry said in a statement published by Chinese state media Xinhua.
Beijing claims Taiwan as its own territory and rejects any official contact Taipei has with other countries. The Chinese government has vowed to one day seize it, by force if necessary.
Wednesday’s meeting “severely violated the one-China principle,” China’s foreign ministry said, referring to a policy officially recognized by the United States for decades.
“The Taiwan issue is at the heart of China’s core interests and the first inviolable red line in China-US relations,” the ministry added.
The Ministry of National Defense also condemned Tsai and McCarthy’s meeting, Xinhua reported.
