Speaking at the annual Shangri-La Dialogue security conference in Singapore, Chinese Defense Minister Wei Fenghe said that Beijing is interested in ending the war in Ukraine as soon as possible, but added that “maximum pressure and sanctions” from the West against Russia allegedly will not contribute to this. but only exacerbate the situation. In his opinion, the United States and NATO should negotiate with Russia to end the war.

“China supports the negotiation process between Russia and Ukraine,” he said, calling Beijing’s position “fair and objective.” The minister also assured that China in this case will contribute to finding a political solution to end the war.
In the speech, Wei Fenghe refrained from accusing Russia of waging a war of aggression.
He stressed that China “respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries.” At the same time, he added, as all official speakers from the PRC do, that “the concern of all parties about their security should be respected,” referring, among other things, to statements from the Russian Federation that NATO and Ukraine allegedly threatened it, and therefore the Kremlin started a big war .

The head of the Chinese Defense Ministry expressed hope that the United States and NATO “will hold talks with the Russian Federation in order to create conditions for an early ceasefire.”
