China Building Rocket for Lunar Landing Mission: Plans to send Manned Spacecraft to Moon by 2030

Jakarta (ANTARA) – China is building a rocket to carry out a lunar landing mission, which will send a manned spacecraft and a lander to lunar orbit in two separate flights, said Zhou Jianping, chief designer of China’s manned space program.

The spacecraft will send the taikonauts into lunar orbit and moor to the lunar lander. The lander will then carry the taikonauts to the surface of the Moon.

After they complete their duties there, the ascender will take the taikonauts back to lunar orbit to rejoin the spacecraft and then return to Earth, Zhou said in a media interview.

When asked to compare it to a manned space station flight, Zhou said the moon landing mission would be more difficult because it required the launch vehicle’s greater carrying capacity.

To achieve a Moon landing, the required payload capacity, i.e. the equivalent delivery capacity for launching to low Earth orbit, will be in the range of 130 to 140 tons, or 30 to 40 percent more than that required to launch the entire Chinese space station combination. with six components).

Nonetheless, Zhou was confident of being able to fulfill the task.

“I am very confident that China will achieve its target of landing humans on the Moon by 2030 and sending them back safely to Earth,” Zhou added.
