The Chinese government prohibits the sale electronic cigarette or vaporizer fruit taste. This policy is adopted to avoid child abuse.
Before the rule went into effect, China had banned the sale electronic cigarette from online. The goal is the same, namely the protection of minors.
In relation to this, the Director of the Ministry of Beverage Industry, Tobacco Products and Catering Materials (Mentegar) of the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) Edy Sutopo opened his voice. He said this could be good input for the government.
“Chinese authorities ban fruit-flavored e-cigarettes. Maybe it’s because the policy involves stakeholders, maybe that’s a great input,” Edy said in the discussion on standardizing e-cigarette product quality for consumer safety. at the Ministry of Industry Building, Thursday (3/11/2022).
Edy said her party will communicate this to interested parties. The regulations will also be studied as an input for Indonesia.
“Later we will pass on to stakeholders, there is the Ministry of Health (Ministry of Health), the Ministry of Economy, there is the Ministry of Coordination for Human Development and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, which determines the direction of the ‘IHT (tobacco product industry) policy.
The Ministry of Industry cannot say yes or no to the implementation of this standard. There are still further discussions with related institutions. However, he said the government is very concerned about minors.
“This (electronic) cigarette lasts from 18 years upwards. It is necessary with the government, economic actors, to involve the media, participate in monitoring. We are very concerned about smoking children, we do not want our young generation to be affected”, he said.
On the other hand, the Head of Organized Vape Consumers (KONVO) Hokkop Situngkir confirmed that the fruity variant is really interesting for children. Chinese policies can be a good input.
“The taste of the fruit stimulates many underage consumers. Several times the liquid is just tasted, that’s a lot,” he explained.
