Men with “feminine style and other abnormal aesthetics” are no longer welcome on Chinese television shows, the National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) said.
The NRTA on Thursday, September 2, called on broadcasters not to include such men in their broadcasts.
The NRTA’s decision is likely to be a reaction to the tendency for actors and singers to create more feminine images. In China, this trend has come from South Korea and Japan.
Television channels should respect “political quality, moral standing, artistic standards, social evaluation as a selection criterion”. The “patriotic, moral and artistic ethos of the industry should be maintained,” the NRTA said.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for “national renewal” by tightening the Communist Party’s control over business, education, culture and religion.
