The Securities Times, a Chinese state news agency, reported that China has approved more than 40 artificial intelligence (AI) models for public use in the past six months. Since Chinese authorities began the process of approving the technology, After China tried to catch up with the United States in AI development.

The report states that Chinese regulators have approved a total of 14 large language models (LLMs) for public use in the past week. This is the fourth round of approvals in China. This latest LLM approval includes LLMs from Xiaomi Corp., 4Paradigm, and 01.AI.

Reuters news agency reported that China began requiring technology companies to seek permission from Chinese regulators to open LLM services to the public in August last year. This reinforces China’s desire to push forward the development of AI technology while regulating such technology.

Incidentally, China approved the first set of AI models in August last year. Shortly after the review process began, Baidu, Alibaba and ByteDance were among the first batch of Chinese companies to receive approval.
