China Announces Successfully Landed Zhurong Robot on Mars Page all

BEIJING, KOMPAS.comChina through the official media announced their success in landing robot explorers Zhurong on the Planet Mars.

The six-wheeled robot will explore Utopia Planitia, a vast field in the north.

The rover uses a rescue capsule, parachute and rockets to make landfall.

The success of Zhurong’s landing on Mars is reaping appreciation, given the steep terrain of the fourth planet in the solar system.

With the success of the robot, China became the second country after the United States (US) to explore the “Red Planet”.

Zhurong, taken from the name of the fire god in the mythology “Panda State”, was carried by a Tianwen-1 plane that arrived in February.

Reported BBC Saturday (15/5/2021), the vehicle studied the safest landing point by taking the image of the Utopia Planitia.

The goal, the robot must be landed in a place where there are no craters and large rocks as much as possible.

Mars is about 320 million km away from Mars, which means that radio signals take at least 18 minutes before they are received.

Therefore, all procedures for landing the “Fire God” had to be carried out automatically.

After determining the location to land, the Tianwen-1 vehicle then released Zhurong which went downhill.

The anti-heat shield covering the capsule also acts as a barrier so that the cruiser does not descend too fast.

Once the parachute opens, the vehicle is released from the rocket and maneuvers to keep its wheels on the ground.

After landing, Chinese scientists have at least 90 days of Mars time to carry out geological studies.

One day, or Sol on the “Red Planet” is reportedly 24 hours and 39 minutes long.
