Moscow. November 16. INTERFAX.RU – The heads of the two states had a frank and in-depth exchange of views on strategic, global issues related to Sino-American relations, as well as on major issues related to global development, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.
During the negotiations, the parties reached a number of agreements, “emphasizing the need for mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, maintaining communication, conflict prevention, and compliance with the UN Charter,” the statement said.
In particular, as the Chinese Foreign Ministry noted, they agreed to “encourage and strengthen dialogue and cooperation” between China and the United States, for example, establishing an intergovernmental dialogue on artificial intelligence and establishing a working group on China-US cooperation in the field of drug control. In addition, the parties intend to resume high-level communication between the armed forces, significantly increase flights, and intensify efforts to overcome the climate crisis.
At the same time, Xi Jinping drew Biden’s attention to the fact that “the United States is constantly taking measures against China in terms of export controls and unilateral sanctions, which seriously harm China’s legitimate interests,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The Chinese leader emphasized that “it is impractical to try to change each other” and explained the main characteristics and significance of Chinese-style modernization, as well as China’s development prospects and strategic intentions.
Xi Jinping proposed to “develop a new vision and work together to build the five pillars of China-US relations” – to develop correct mutual understanding and joint effective control over differences, and develop mutually beneficial cooperation. It is also a “joint responsibility of the great powers” for solving problems facing human society, which involves strengthening coordination on international and regional issues and promoting cultural exchanges, the Foreign Ministry reports.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the Chinese leader also “detailed his principled position on the Taiwan issue, pointing out that the Taiwan issue has always been the most important and sensitive issue in China-US relations.”
“As long as both sides adhere to the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and mutually beneficial cooperation, they can overcome their differences and find the right path for interaction between the two great powers,” the Chinese President said.
