China and Singapore are set to conduct joint naval drills in Singapore, according to the Chinese defence ministry. The exercises will take place from the end of April to early May, and will involve the dispatch of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy’s frigate Yulin and Chibi minesweeper. The drills were agreed upon at a meeting of defence ministers last year, with personnel from Singapore regularly participating in military exercises with both regional and global partners. The announcement came shortly after the US Commander of the Pacific Air Forces held discussions with Singapore’s defence minister on enhanced military cooperation.
