China and Indonesia have co-hosted the third meeting of the China-Indonesia High-level Dialogue Cooperation Mechanism, aimed at strengthening their cooperation to promote the development of both countries and of the region. Representatives from both countries attended the meeting, in which Wang Yi, Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, stated that China is ready to strengthen political, economic, cultural and maritime cooperation. As this year marks the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative, Wang stated China’s willingness to work with Indonesia to further cooperation under the Initiative in the next stage. Wang specifically suggested cooperation in development financing, green economy and grain security, maritime cooperation, and bilateral economic, trade and investment cooperation. The two countries should also promote strategic mutual trust and Chinese-Indonesian people-to-people friendship, according to Wang. Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Indonesia’s Coordinator for Cooperation with China and Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment, expressed Indonesia’s willingness to build the Belt and Road Initiative with China, as well as exploring the Global Development Initiative with China and increasing their “sense of a community with a shared future”.
