China accuses US of bringing up Ukraine issue to create tension and panic

BEIJING China accuse United States of America (USA) “escalating tensions” and “creating panic” over crisis Ukraine . The accusations came shortly after Washington announced sanctions against Moscow.

China slammed Washington for the sanctions on Wednesday (23/2/2022) and said the US was increasing tensions by sending weapons to Ukraine.

“The US actions have increased tensions, created panic and even played up the war schedule,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying told reporters, as quoted by Channel News Asia.

“If someone adds fuel to the fire while blaming someone else, then that behavior is irresponsible and immoral,” he added. He also turned the spotlight on the US in response to questions about China’s role in resolving the situation.

He said that China had “requested all parties to respect and attach importance to each other’s security issues, strive to resolve issues through negotiations and consultations, and jointly safeguard regional peace and stability”.

Beijing has treaded cautiously in Ukraine as Moscow has amassed thousands of troops at the border, and criticized the West for new sanctions, after Russia ordered troops into two breakaway Ukrainian territories now recognized as independent.

Asked whether China would impose sanctions on Russia, Hua added that Beijing believed “sanctions have never been a fundamental and effective way to solve problems”.
