BAS made a chilling forecast for prices in the fall and winter.
Food prices will double in the fall. This became clear from the words of Associate Professor Ognyan Boyukliev from the Institute for Economic Research at the BAS to bTV.
“We harvest grain, and nitrogen fertilizers are 3-4 times more expensive. It is an intensive crop that requires processing by combine tractors, and diesel has become more expensive. Electricity is needed to store grain, and bread is baked on gas,” Boyukliev explained.
He emphasized that every year summer food prices are lower.
“It is due to the fact that it is summer and the harvest has been harvested. Our research shows that 30% of people rely on their own backyard production in villages. The economic year began on October 1 and ends on October 1 of the following year, when the harvest is harvested, and during these 12 months the farmer continuously invests raw materials, materials, and financial resources. Now in the summer the prices are different, but we also have two crises – COVID and the war in Ukraine”, Boyukliev added.
He was categorical that the lower prices now are not due to the government’s policy, but are due to global trends.
