Chillán climbed to fourth position among the country’s favorite destinations to travel by bus during these National Holidays, according to an analysis of consumer preferences carried out by the Recorrido.cl platform.
According to the information collected in the first 10 days of September, Puerto Montt rose as the first alternative among the quotes, dethroning Temuco, which led the ranking in the same period of 2022. Concepción, Temuco and Chillán, showing an evident tendency of users to move to the cities in the south of the country.
In the case of the capital of Ñuble, it rose from the seventh place it occupied in the same period last year, to fourth place, surpassing destinations such as Los Angeles, Talca, Osorno, La Serena, Castro and Valdivia this year.
Simon Narli, co-founder of Recorrido.cl, also assured that for this year “the purchase of tickets on our platform increased 30%, due to the fact that there are more and more people who prefer to do this procedure online.”
Recorrido.cl also projects lower demand for the second half of September, after the National Holidays. This behavior would be explained by a consequent increase in October, considering that there will be two long weekends and better weather conditions.

Augusto González, regional director of Sernatur, reflected that “there are a couple of reasons why Chillán and, in general, the Ñuble Region, have a better position for celebrating the National Holidays. Firstly, it has to do with the identification of this area with the most traditional aspects of the country, the most peasant heritage, the history, the traditions that are lived in a very special way in the region.”
The professional added that, secondly, “it allows a short trip, thinking, above all, of families who live in the Metropolitan Region. They are people who optimize travel time and can access an interesting and very varied offer. You can choose between the beach, the valley, the mountain range. Let’s not forget that there is still snow and that we are going to have snow for the entire month of September and part of October. “This means that people can do life, tourism and enjoy the National Holidays very close to the Metropolitan Region.”
Asked about his expectations for the National Holidays, the director of Sernatur was “optimistic regarding the deployment of tourism during this long weekend in Ñuble. I believe that the different destinations will have visitors who will be able to enjoy the benefits of our region and the different communes. Just name a few things. Indeed, people who want and can go to the Chillán hot springs and its surroundings will find snow. I understand that this destination is absolutely already reserved in advance, however, the day trip is still allowed, the same will happen in the Valley with all the traditions associated with this territory, the San Fabián space will also be to be enabled so that people can enjoy and finally, on the coast there are also spaces to be able to enjoy this 18th as well.”
