A 51-year-old Chilean woman, identified as Carolina Andrea Nazir Salinaswas found dead inside an apartment in the Canasvieiras area of ​​the Brazilian municipality of Florianópolis.

According to local media, the janitor of the building where the woman lived was the one who found the body. This happened after the resident’s dogs were outside the apartment for a long time.

Specifically, the discovery took place on Monday, September 16. Initial police investigations determined that the cause of death was asphyxiation.

In that context, Brazilian Homicide Police began the search of the last person who was with the Chilean woman inside the apartment: a man of Uruguayan nationality.

Uruguayan suspect

The media outlet Balanço Geral Florianópolis reported that the main suspect is the Uruguayan citizen who, in the days prior to her death, was sharing the apartment with the woman.

Specifically, it has been reported that the subject had been living with the Chilean woman for about four days before in the property, after they met on a nearby beach.

Security cameras in the building recorded the Uruguayan leaving the premises. The investigation determined that he later took a bus to the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

Finally The individual was captured in the town of Bagélocated in the south of the aforementioned state and close to the border with Uruguay. The latter suggests that the alleged perpetrator of the crime had intentions of returning to his country.

“A vagabond”

The Chilean woman’s family told 24 hours that they are making all arrangements, including with the Foreign Ministry, to repatriate the body as soon as possible.

In an interview with the same media outlet, a daughter of the woman who identified herself as Josefa Lastarria, stated that her mother had invited the man to live there to help him.

He was a homeless man who lived on the street and there my mother made friends with him.. He told my mother that he had a brain tumor and that’s when my mother fell for his charms. She wanted to take him into her house and gave him food,” the young woman revealed to the TVN newscast, quoted by The Third.

Along these lines, Josefa explained that the appearance of the individual aroused her suspicions.

“I told my mother and warned her; I had a bad feeling about it, I told her that what he said was a lie,” she said.

In addition, the daughter of the woman found dead said that the man took her mother’s cell phone and then wrote to her directly, trying to gain time.

“He sent me messages from my mother’s cell phone and I noticed it was strange because he wrote with spelling mistakes,” she explained.
