Jakarta Faces Mixed Trends in Food Prices as Key products See Fluctuations
Jakarta, January 16, 2025 – The city is witnessing a mixed bag of price changes for essential food products, with some items seeing meaningful increases while others experience notable drops. According too the latest data from the National Strategic Food Price Facts Center of Bank indonesia, the prices of rice, red chili, beef, and local granulated sugar have risen, while onions, garlic, and certain types of cooking oil have become more affordable.The price of medium quality I rice increased by IDR 50 to IDR 15,350 per kilogram, while super quality I rice saw a jump to IDR 16,750 per kilogram. conversely, low-quality rice dropped by IDR 100 to IDR 13,900 per kilogram. This fluctuation in rice prices comes just a day after the new BULOG hydropower plant officially came into effect, which may have influenced market dynamics.
Chili prices also saw significant changes. The cost of big red chili rose by IDR 1,050, while curly red chili increased by IDR 1,050 to IDR 58,250 per kilogram.Meanwhile, red cayenne pepper climbed by IDR 700 to IDR 85,200 per kilogram. However, green cayenne pepper bucked the trend, falling by IDR 1,550 to IDR 58,400 per kilogram.
In the meat category, quality II beef surged by IDR 1,400 to IDR 131,400 per kilogram, while pure chicken prices rose to IDR 38,650 per kilogram. Conversely, the price of breeding hen eggs dropped by IDR 450 to IDR 30,950 per kilogram.Sugar and cooking oil prices also showed mixed trends. Local granulated sugar increased by IDR 100 to IDR 18,250 per kilogram, while premium granulated sugar remained stable at IDR 19,400 per kilogram. the price of bulk cooking oil fell by IDR 50 to IDR 18,650 per kilogram,and packaged oil dropped by IDR 100 to IDR 21,750 per kilogram.
