Chile witnesses 62% surge in Covid infections within 14 days

This Sunday there were 10,942 patients in the active stage and 13 deaths nationwide.

The Ministry of Health reports that new confirmed cases at the national level increased by 18.4% in the last week, while in the last 14 days they registered an increase of 62.9%. In addition, and no region decreases its cases during the last two weeks.

The case report for this Sunday, March 19, records 3,405 new cases of COVID-19, with a positivity rate of 11.66% in the last 24 hours nationwide, with 24,286 exams, PCR, and antigen tests.

According to sampling, the regions with the highest positivity in the last week are O’Higgins, Antofagasta, Magallanes and Biobío.

Meanwhile, the Atacama region has the highest current incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants, followed by Aysén, Ñuble and Biobío.

According to today’s report, of the 3,405 new cases of COVID-19, 2,291 correspond to symptomatic people and 226 do not present symptoms. In addition, 888 Positive PCR tests were registered that were not notified.

The total number of people who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the country reaches 5,231,041. Of this total, 10,942 patients are in the active stage.

As for deaths, according to the information provided by the Department of Statistics and Health Information (DEIS), in the last 24 hours, 13 deaths have been registered due to causes associated with COVID-19. The total number of deaths amounts to 64,392 in the country.

As of yesterday, 84 people were hospitalized in Intensive Care Units, of which 59 remained with mechanical ventilation support.
