The beer world of Chile and in particular the Los Ríos region is celebrating. The final of the Copa Cervezas de América 2022 in its IX version will be held in Valdivia until Saturday 29 October and various activities related to the event have been scheduled.
The jury will taste 135 styles participating in the Copa Cervezas de América. The participating judges come from countries such as Costa Rica, Brazil, United States, France, Panama, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Mexico and Spain, with the sole purpose of evaluating the more than 600 beers that reach this stage of the competition.
This IX Cup is part of the activities of the project FIC 22-09 “ Strengthening the management of business nodes of regional products ” funded by the Innovation Fund for Competitiveness (FIC) of the Los Ríos regional government and its regional council and which is run by the Universidad San Sebastián (Campus Valdivia).
For the governor of Los Ríos, Luis Cuvertino, an international activity such as the one to be held in Valdivia marks an important milestone for the region. “The fact that we are the guests of this world-class event is a clear sign that the investment we are making in promoting entrepreneurship and innovation is generating a great impact on the development of the region, both from a tourist and an economic point of view. . . We have allocated significant resources for this event because we know we are a beer producing region, with the potential of our producers that we must exploit. We hope that this meeting will allow us to have the best knowledge and experience, which translate into innovations, improvements in processes, in short, in the strengthening of this important regional voice, to put ourselves at the forefront at national and global level.Cuvertino commented.
The director of the FIC project, Emilio Becker, who is also an academic of Linking with the Environment at the School of Commercial Engineering of the USS in Valdivia, commented on the importance of Beer Week, for all actors related to the sector: “The activities that have been planned are an invitation to the meeting between the different representatives of the beer union, the associated service providers, as is the case with tourism and suppliers and, without a doubt, those who love the sector to be consumers of good beer “.
“The program includes international guest conferences, an exhibition of the suppliers of the Region’s Craft Beer Ecosystem, a business conference and the Grand Finale of the Copa Cervezas de América. This project highlights Valdivia and the Region as a city that lives and grows around this sector and whose projection is enormous. We want the capacities to remain in the region and, why not, to act every year as a platform to continue positioning the region with its products “ Becker said.
The award ceremony
At the Center for Scientific Studies (CEC), from 17:00 to 22:00 on Saturday 29, the meeting will be held to celebrate the culture of beer and will conclude with the Grand Final of the Copa Cervezas de América.
Copa Cervezas de América director Daniel Trivelli indicated that this will be a time of celebration and camaraderie. “The International Grand Final is the most awaited moment by all participants. The challenge is great, since the jury has the arduous task of tasting 600 beers of 135 different styles in a short amount of time. The organization
Diego Masiero, creator of Matinê Cervejeira, and part of the organizing team of the Copa Cervezas de América 2022, explains that this version is the return after 3 years without being able to hold the event. “The number of participants who added the national and international version made us very happy”commented Masiero. “Also in the final, the brewery of the year will be chosen, that is the one that wins the most medals in the competition; The three best beers of the competition will also be awarded, chosen among the gold medals in all categories. However, Brazil, Argentina and Chile will have selected the best beers by country and the best brewery of each of these beer producing nations “ Diego Masiero advances.
The Cup was born in 2011 and is conceived with the aim of creating an event of unique value, providing an exchange of knowledge and good experiences between those who share the love for beer. The winners of each category of the competition are awarded with gold, silver or bronze medals, gaining visibility and international recognition for their beers.
Commemorative beer 2022
In each glass a special beer is brewed among different brewers, which is called Commemorative. This year and in a unique way, this beer was brewed by the Community of Brewing Women of Southern Chile, for considering the gender approach in the field. This is something that highlights Jimena Besoain, Territorial Director of the FIC Project. There are 3,000 liters of commemorative beer, which can be tasted at the El Regreso Brewery on Wednesday 26 October, starting at 7pm.
