The patient, a resident of the Metropolitan (Central) region, presented with a sudden vesicular eruption accompanied by swelling of the lymph nodes, the Chilean Ministry of Health said in a press release, adding that he was in good health and not had no complications.

Health authorities recommend consulting a doctor “to people who have traveled abroad and had close skin-to-skin contact, including sexual intercourse, and who have a sudden onset of unexplainable skin lesions, with one or more symptoms such as fever, swollen glands, muscle or back pain and weakness”.

“Monkey pox is a zoonotic viral disease” caused by viruses transmitted from animals to humans, which belongs to the same family as the smallpox virus eradicated in 1980 and produces similar symptoms, “but less serious”recalled the ministry.
