Child’s Mother Tricked Rp 2 Trillion, Perpetrators Conspired to Disguise to be Paranormal

RIO DE JANEIRO, KOMPAS.comWomen Brazil named Sabine Coll Boghici (48) was arrested on Wednesday (10/8/2022) on charges of conspiring to defraud his 82-year-old mother, Genevieve Boghici.

Genevieve is the wife of the late art collector Jean Boghici. Sabine tricked him for money, artwork and jewelry for a total of about 724 million reais (Rp 2 trillion).

His arrest also exposed a decades-old web of scams that police say involved self-styled psychics. They deceived some famous painters in Brazil.

Four other people were also arrested, while two others named Diana Rosa Aparecida Stanesco Vuletic and Slavko Vuletic are still at large.

Quoted from Reuters on Thursday (11/8/2022), the scam began in 2020 when Genevieve was approached by a psychic who predicted her daughter’s death was imminent.

The victim was then taken to several more psychics. According to police, the suspects used information from her daughter to trick a desperate Genevieve into transferring money to pay for “spiritual care.”

In the months that followed, police accused the suspects of physically threatening Genevieve and she was held at home for months by her daughter.

Sabine and her gang disguised as psychics “took the artwork from (mother’s) home, claiming that the painting is cursed with something negative, with negative energy that needs to be prayed for,” said Rio de Janeiro police officer Gilberto Ribeiro.

After nearly a year of being abused by Sabine and her accomplices, the victim then went to the police.
