Children’s Stamps Foundation celebrates 100th anniversary with special stamp

Starting today, 130,000 children will be going door to door selling children’s stamps, postcards and other products. This year’s theme is “Every child deserves superpowers”. This morning in Leiden, Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet unveiled the 2024 children’s stamps and a special anniversary stamp in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Children’s Stamps Foundation.
At the St. Joseph School in Leiden, the city where Kinderpostzegels is located, children’s idol Klaas van Kruistum presented the festive gathering where KH Princess Margriet unveiled the new children’s stamp and placed the first order. The children of group 7 asked the Princess questions and sang to her with the song ‘Superkracht’, which was created together with pop group NXT from Kinderen voor Kinderen and Armin van Buuren in honor of the 100th anniversary of Kinderpostzegels.

The first children’s stamp with a personal message has been designed especially for the 100th anniversary, and is issued by PostNL. Using a QR code, the sender can record a personal video message for the recipient, which of course makes receiving mail extra fun. A trampoline is depicted on the stamp. This symbolizes the safety net and the springboard that many children in difficult situations lack. In addition to the children’s stamps, there are also door-to-door and online also products such as a shopper, a plaster tin and various cards designed by card partner Hallmark are available. A one time donation doing is also possible. The children’s stamp campaign runs until Wednesday, October 2.

Overview 100 years of Children’s Stamps
In 1924, a royal decree stipulates that stamps may be issued in the Netherlands with a surcharge ‘for the disadvantaged child’. In that year, volunteers sell the first children’s stamps. The proceeds are 51,000 guilders (23,143 euros). The money goes to hundreds of institutions for foster children. Since then, stamps have appeared in all shapes, sizes and colours. On the website is a special overview of all the designs of the Children’s Stamps from the past 100 years.
