AWO Düsseldorf collected around 1,000 signatures
(kws) Numerous children’s and family associations as well as action alliances and individual organizations have long been calling for it: Children’s rights must be anchored in the Basic Law. The AWO Düsseldorf also supports the project. With a large postcard campaign, the district association and its subsidiaries have now emphasized the demand once again.

Around 1,000 signatures were collected in the campaign that ran for several months in the Düsseldorf city area and was initiated to mark the 40th anniversary of the AWO children’s rights attorney Till Eulenspiegel. Together with the AWO district chairman Manfred Abels and district manager Marion Warden handed over the responsible head of department Gudrun Siebel now the postcards to the Düsseldorf member of the Bundestag and deputy AWO chairman Andreas Rimkus. He announced that the stately postcard package would be handed over to Federal Family Minister Franziska Giffey in Berlin as soon as possible.
After years of negotiations, the federal government agreed in early 2021 on a proposed formulation to include children’s rights in the Basic Law. In the Bundestag, however, a two-thirds majority is required for the amendment to the Basic Law.
