From today, the young patients of the Children’s Hospital will receive tastier food, which will be prepared in a new, modern kitchen – in the initiative “Eat Joy” will improve the feeding of small patients. So far, the largest number of complaints from children’s parents has been about nutrition, not treatment.
The task of the children’s hospital is to treat and care for young patients. An average of 15,000 young patients stay in hospital each year, and some of them have longer stays and recovery times than others. In the recovery phase, what is important is a healthy and wholesome diet, which has always met these requirements in the hospital, but not the expectations and understanding of small patients about delicious food. This has now been fixed.
A big event at the Children’s Hospital today. In the presence of the hospital management and the parents of small patients, the new, modern kitchen is opened. Meals are an integral part of the recovery of sick patients. And until now, the children in the hospital ate healthy, but the food they received did not go to heart. Liene Dambiņa, the head of the Children’s Hospital Foundation, reveals that the hospital has often received complaints from parents not about treatment, but about nutrition.
“Of course, eating for a child could be a joy and a pleasant event of the day, considering that being in the hospital is full of anxiety and fear. Therefore, this “Eat Joy” initiative is about children being able to eat not only healthy, but also really happily, in the Children’s Hospital. Instead of a parent, he later runs to “Narvessen” to buy a snack that is not healthy at all, “says Dambiņa.
Now there is a completely new kitchen and a completely different menu. Healthy products, beautifully designed and child-friendly content. For example, porridge decorated with colored berries or a muffin in the shape of a butterfly. The new kitchen team of the Children’s Hospital is also assisted by the well-known chef Elmārs Tannis and local entrepreneurs.
“Now you can see that something beautiful has been made and many colossal things are being created. The private sector has entered a state institution, which is a matter of fiction, and is something new in Latvia. In the future, we should work to improve nutrition in schools and other hospitals, and it would be beautiful and tasty, ”describes Elmārs Tannis of the new project.
It is hoped that lunch time and meals could become the most anticipated event of the day at the hospital.
