Children’s Home May Festival: Kids Take the Lead in Planning and Preparation

It is in the nature of things that there are children at the kindergarten festival. But the fact that they are on board with the preparation and planning is something special. With the “May Festival Participation Project”, the team of experts and children at the Bullerbü children’s home managed to create a special event that attracted many parents and families to the DRK district association house in Ravensburg last Friday. The guests enjoyed the beautiful atmosphere and the elegant celebration.

There was great joy in the children’s house on the day of the celebration: the first thing was to build the maypole with the advice of the parents, which once again confirms the good cooperation . When she welcomed the guests, the manager of the facility Fanny Christin later described, among other things, how the festival came about. At the same time, she praised the performance of professionals and children for the success of the festival. A choir of children and adults joined the theme of the day with “Baanis nan Eun”.

The Bullerbü children’s home team had an idea for the participation project for some time, says educational expert and team leader Magdalena Hantschel. The question still arose what would be good for this? Then it was almost automatic: ask the children. The experts offered them three projects to choose from. In the vote in the children’s parliament, the May Festival received a clear majority ahead of the reading project and forest week. Voting was done as in democratic elections: everyone had one vote – whether they were children or adults – and could use it as they saw fit.

Uninvited Party: As the party drew closer, the children’s parliament voted for a ladybug invitation from three options. After that, each child had two weeks to make their own invitation through the open tender in the indoor creative workshop. The children also played an important role in the activities and stations. The ideas came from the four kindergarten groups: some wanted to sell ice cream, others wanted to make board games. Sometimes the groups had to agree on compromises. Some took care of the cotton candy at the festival, while others were responsible for the disco.
