MURCIA, 26 (EUROPA PRESS)
The Department of Social Welfare, Family and Health of the Murcia City Council, headed by Pilar Torres, has organized for this Monday, November 27, in which educational centers celebrate the Teacher’s Day holiday (despite the fact that it is commemorated on the 29th). November), an extraordinary children’s vaccination campaign against the flu in the municipal offices of the Jardín del Salitre.
In this way, Health wants to take advantage of this non-school day to encourage families who have not yet done so to vaccinate their children between six months and five years, since this is the age group that this year the Ministry of Health has Also included in the anti-flu campaign for the 2023-2024 season.
To this end, “an extraordinary vaccination day has been organized this Monday, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the vaccination post that the Murcia City Council has in the Jardín del Salitre de Murcia”, as explained by Pilar Torres, who in turn highlights that “for this it will not be necessary to have an appointment, also facilitating the accessibility of families who are interested in protecting the little ones in the house against the flu.”
This vaccination is aimed at children between six and 59 months of age and for them there are the necessary doses of flu vaccine, both in traditional format and the new inhaled vaccines for children between two and four years old.
The start of the anti-flu campaign for children of these ages started on October 9, although it was on September 25 when those who were born between 2019 and 2020 began to be vaccinated in schools.
The Councilor for Social Welfare, Family and Health reports that so far the number of doses administered to this population in our Salitre services is 115 children immunized against the flu. He also remembers that “it is important to promote the vaccination of children under five years of age, given that in this age group, there are more consultations, more hospital admissions (68% of the admitted minors did not present any risk factor) and more cases serious than in those over 65 years of age”. ON DECEMBER 1 VACCINATION IS OPENED TO THE ENTIRE POPULATION
The main objective of the campaign is to reduce morbidity and mortality from influenza and Covid-19, especially in people who are at higher risk of developing serious illness. Covid and flu have similar rates of complications and mortality, so the elderly and risk groups must protect themselves.
Therefore, according to the calendar set, this week vaccination will also be opened to the entire population and anyone will be able to be immunized against the flu, even if they do not belong to risk groups, starting next December 1.
In the 2022/2023 campaign, flu vaccination coverage in people over 60 years of age in the municipality of Murcia reached 62.78 percent, a little above the regional average, which stood at 61.49 percent.
