Children’s Czech Nature Photo: Nature through the eyes of the young hopefuls of Czech photography

A polar bear in rapid motion, a poetic image of a dragonfly, brilliant photographs of insects and the world below the surface. The student and junior part of the Czech Nature Photo photography competition produced beautiful images. “Every year, more and more young photographers apply, often with exceptionally high-quality works,” says competition manager Michal Krause. We present the photos that will be fighting for first place this year in the photo gallery.

157 pupils and students applied for this year’s (already seventh) year of the Czech Nature Photo competition. Together, they sent almost 1,500 images. The jury selected the best of them in three categories derived from the age of the contestants: younger students, older students and high school students.

The following nominated photographers will compete for the title:

  • Category younger pupils: Tereza Hospodářová, Jakub Jelínek, Anežka Veselá
  • Older students category: Michal Bogár, Šimon Martínek and Matyáš Mutina
  • Secondary school student categories: Vojtěch Gregor, Eliška Panáčková and Kristýna Velnerová.

The announcement of the winners of the adult and junior categories, including Photo of the Year, will take place at a ceremony before the opening of the exhibition at the Czech Photo Center on May 10, 2023.

An accompanying program has been prepared for the exhibition, which will take place in the gallery of the Czech Photo Centre. On Wednesday, May 17, the director of the Šumava National Park Administration, Pavel Hubený, will give a lecture about Šumava forests. Next Wednesday, May 24, wildlife photographer Vít Lukáš will talk about an unsuccessful trip to Madagascar (how the cheapest expedition turned into the most expensive trip). Furthermore, on June 14, a lecture by Vít Kahle from the Prague Zoo will be prepared. Traditionally, the exhibition will be accompanied by guided tours led by competition manager and photographer Michal Krause, on May 23, June 6 and September 3 from 5 p.m. each time.

We already reported on the nominations in the categories intended for adult photographers in the article The best Czech nature photography: Do we know this year’s nomination, which will win?
