VIVACOVID-19 is still a threat to the world community, including in the country where cases are starting to increase again with the addition of 2,000 confirmed cases per day. Transmission of SARS-CoV-2 itself is vulnerable to lurking in groups child, especially with congenital or comorbid disease.

The chairman of the Indonesian Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (ITAGI) Sri Rezeki Hadinegoro said that basically the burden of COVID-19 in children rarely experienced severe cases. Usually, such heavy loads tend to stalk adults.

“Children sometimes don’t even have symptoms. But there are groups of children who are at risk such as idap diabetes, obesity, asthma, heart disease, cancer. These are high-risk children, later they must be treated and admitted to the ICU, sometimes the complications are high,” said Sri, in an online event with the Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI), Saturday, January 22, 2022.

There are also certain moments where the trend of COVID-19 cases in children increases, which is generally due to a joint holiday. The reason, Sri Rejeki assesses that many parents bring their children into the crowd so they are vulnerable to infection.

“The case will increase after the holidays. Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha holidays, holidays together, always go up. Because their parents take them on trips to malls, markets and this is our concern. The trend goes up every holiday. Children are very vulnerable to meeting people. another. A crowd we didn’t know was OTG but he’s still contagious,” he said.

Sri Rezeki admitted, the transmission of COVID-19 in children is indeed relatively low. It’s just that it deserves to be highlighted, the children become ‘facilitator’ transmission of the virus in the environment so that cases of COVID-19 can be more widespread.

“Although the incidence of transmission of children is 12.1 percent, they transmit it to other people. So, Herd Immunity is quickly formed when children are given vaccines so that they can help return to normal life,” he added.
