Children with corona usually have the same complaints as with a cold

A corona infection in children is often the same as with a cold. The complaints are often the same. Now this is not necessarily news, but the research by UMC Utrecht shows very detailed data about the symptoms of disease in children for the first time, explains pediatrician and epidemiologist Patricia Bruijning. NOS reports this.

The coronavirus has also been widely circulated among children for the Delta variant. About two thirds of children under the age of 12 have now had the corona virus, says UMC Utrecht. That is more children than previously thought. This is partly because children were tested less in earlier stages of the pandemic.

No differences

But what also plays a role is that it is not always visible in children that they have corona. After all, the complaints correspond to a common cold. “Thanks to the diaries they all kept, we were able to compare the symptoms of corona and other respiratory infections,” explains pediatrician Bruijning of UMC Utrecht. The seriousness of the complaints and the type of complaints with corona or a cold do not appear to differ. “By the way, this is emphatically not the case with adults, as this research also shows.”
