For many children, the summer will be spent in the hospital, according to the awareness campaign of the CHU Sainte-Justine in progress.
This is particularly the case of Eliam, one year old, who absolutely must receive a new heart.
The boy was born with a heart problem and last April his parents learned that he absolutely needed a heart to survive.
This wait can last a year and during this period, his parents stay at his bedside. They hope to find a cadaveric donor soon.
“It’s a bit unreal,” explained Jimmy Asselin, Eliam’s father. “You don’t want to hear those words, that your child is going to have a heart transplant. My child is in a terminal cardiac stage ”.
Éliam’s parents want to raise awareness about organ donation, but also encourage them to participate in the CHU Sainte-Justine fundraising campaign to help with research and the parents who are forced to stop working to stay in bedside of their children.
Sarah-Lou’s parents learned that she had acute leukemia in May. She was able to be out for a few days, but had to return to the hospital for chemotherapy treatments on Monday.
“It requires treatment over several years of chemotherapy and hospitalization and regular monitoring,” said Sarah-Lou’s mother, Carine Gendrot-Darbonville.
“It doesn’t please, it prevents me from doing things,” added Ms. Gendrot-Darbonville.
