Children will be prohibited at blockades

Children and adolescents will no longer be able to participate in the blockages or be in the vicinity, provides for one of the measures of the decree of the state of emergency.

Officials from the Department of Justice confirmed the news during a technical briefing reserved for the media on Tuesday evening.

This is therefore an ultimatum for parents who find themselves in the protests with their children. If they do not leave, the Ontario Youth Protection Services could come and remove the children present at the demonstration in Ottawa, for example.

Valérie Assouline, a lawyer specializing in youth and family law, says she expected this decree.

“That’s why I asked the parents to pack up and leave,” she explains.

She specifies that the Ontario youth protection services have the right to go and inspect the trucks where there are children and have the right to remove the children from this environment if necessary. This decree therefore gives them additional power.

“It’s putting the parents up against the wall, in the end,” said the lawyer.
