Children: to know the world with the ‘Universal History Collection’ – Music and Books – Culture

To understand what is happening in the world today from the political, economic, social and cultural spheres, we need to go back to historical events; that is, to interpret the past. Hence, History is one of the branches of Social Sciences that carries out a systematic study of the evolution of humanity from the civilizations that have preceded us.

It is difficult to define the origin of History; however, the Greek Herodotus of Halicarnassus (484-425 BC) is identified as the first historian. Other famous historians have been Sima Qian, considered the father of Chinese history; Al-Tabari, Francois Mignet, Gustave Glotz, Oswald Spengler, Edmund Morgan, Joan Wallach Scott, Elizabeth Eisenstein, Tito Livio, Andrey Korotayev, Eric Hobsbawm.

Starting from the spirit that characterizes the EL TIEMPO Collections, on Sunday August 7 will be the launch of Universal History, a collection for children between 7 and 10 years old, which combines humor and adventure to approach the past.

Regarding the value of teaching this subject to children, the Colombian historian and writer Javier Ortiz Cassiani comments: “It is a way of establishing connections, of understanding that their lives are not isolated, they are built from the dynamics social and cultural of the space they inhabit. Universal History serves to place local and regional history in a more comprehensive context; and therefore have a broader vision of the world, of knowing and recognizing oneself from others”.
