Children Ruinerwold react in hurt to Op1 book about father | NOW

The children who lived hidden with their father in a farm in Ruinerwold, responded to the book in the talk show Op1 on Thursday evening Haunted farm Ruinerwold from journalists Silvan Schoonhoven and Marcel Vink. They say they were “hit hard”.

Schoonhoven and Vink were guests in the talk show to talk about the book that will be released on Friday.

In the book they write in detail about Gerrit Jan van D., the father of the family. It was written on the basis of the chat history of Van D and the criminal file held by The Telegraph.

During the broadcast of Op1 a statement from the children was read out. “We have been hit hard by the way our information is handled and ended up in a book. It further hurts us in this difficult situation, while much of what we read has nothing to do with the truth,” they write.

The children also indicate that they are hurt that the book speaks of a dark family. That would make it seem like they’ve done something wrong themselves.

The children also state that they have not been approached by the authors for a response to the book. The authors believe that contact was sought at an earlier stage. They say they have been reluctant to use information.

Father’s lawyer is considering legal action

Van D.’s lawyer said on Thursday that he would consider taking legal steps to prohibit the publication of the book, reports RTV Drenthe. “That book is written on completely incomplete information and harmful to my client,” he explains.

The Ruinerwold family was discovered at the beginning of October after the oldest of the children still living in the farm rang the bell in a local pub. Agents searched the farm and found the other five children and the father in a small room to be closed off.

The father is suspected of sexually abusing two of his oldest children. He is also being prosecuted for unlawful deprivation of liberty and endangering the health of the six children staying in the farm. Three other children had already left the farm.
