Teresita de León Torres and Nadia de León Torres, both daughters of Sandra Torres and that they won a seat in Congress, while Edgar Antonio De León Torres, also Torres’ son, won a seat in the Central American Parliament, they could not assume their positions due to constitutional prohibition if Sandra Torres wins the presidency.
Article 164 subsection “C” of the Political Constitution of Guatemala establishes that relatives of the President of the Republic cannot be deputies. Nor those of the Vice President within the fourth degree of consanguinity or second of affinity. Therefore, Teresita and Nadia could not assume if Sandra Torres is elected President of Guatemala.

While Edgar Antonio could not assume his position in the Central American Parliament either. This is because article 4 of the Parlacen Constitution states that the incompatibilities will be the same as those established by the respective national laws for the position of deputy. Therefore, Torres could not assume.
In the 2015 elections, the son of Vice President Jafeth Cabrera could not take office as a deputy due to the prohibition established in the Constitution. The magistrates of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal complied with the provisions of the Constitution and did not award him the position.
