Because in the Netherlands there is still anger and great sadness. Every child knew the crime reporter Peter de Vries. The family man was gunned down in downtown Amsterdam last week and died nine days after the attack. The drug mafia is probably behind the attack.

It was not until Tuesday, the day before his death, that Peter de Vries’ children spoke live on Dutch television. “Thank you for the wonderfully beautiful words, flowers, cards and candles that you light for our father,” said daughter Kelly about the wave of solidarity for her father.
A friend and long-time companion read from a letter from de Vries’ partner. “Everything that my dear Peter does, he does with love and devotion,” he quoted from it.

De Vries was the leading crime reporter in the Netherlands for almost 30 years and has often appeared as a spokesperson for victims or witnesses at trials. He was a regular guest on TV talk shows. The reporter became internationally known in 1987 with his bestseller about the kidnapping of the brewer Freddy Heineken. In 2008 he won an Emmy Award for reporting on the case of Natalee Holloway. The trail currently leads to the Moroccan Mafia. An attacker shot at de Vries on Tuesday last week after taping a television program about a gang trial as he was leaving a television studio. The reporter was also an adviser to one of the key witnesses in the proceedings.
Peter de Vries had made a name for himself as an investigative journalist in the organized crime scene. Two men, a 35-year-old Pole residing in Maurik in the south-east of the country, and a 21-year-old Rotterdam native were arrested shortly after the crime. One of them is said to be the Sagittarius.
