A little before one o’clock a fire broke out in a three-storey terraced house. When the fire brigade arrived, the flames already burst through the windows of the first floor and there was already a transfer to the upper floor. The emergency services managed to get all those present out of the burning building via the staircase.
Two children found on the first floor were taken outside with severe burns, resuscitated and taken to the children’s hospital. There it turned out that all help for the two children came too late, confirms the Brussels public prosecutor’s office to Nieuwsblad.
Balcony down
A further four other residents of the property were also taken to hospital with smoke poisoning, but would not be in critical condition. The fierce fire started on the first floor and caused the entire balcony to come down. The second floor was also severely damaged by the fire.
The entire building has therefore been declared uninhabitable. The Brussels public prosecutor’s office has appointed a fire expert who must now investigate exactly how the fire started.
