Children up to 12 years old in the province of Utrecht will travel for free on the bus and tram next year. Carriers QBuzz and Syntus Utrecht have decided this. The condition is that an adult travels with the child. The price of a ticket for the bus and tram remains the same for others.
Until now, children were allowed to travel for free during the school holidays, but from 2024 this will be possible every day.
The province of Utrecht is happy with the trial. “We want to welcome more people to our public transport. Learning young is done old: children who get to know our buses and trams are more likely to choose public transport later on,” said deputy André van Schie. The province cannot now say whether travel will remain free in subsequent years.
Not more expensive
The price for a bus or tram ticket in the province of Utrecht will also not increase.
