Children between the ages of 5 and 11 will be eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in Berlin, authorities announced on Sunday, joining other German regions.
Children in Berlin will be able to receive the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine in doctors’ offices, schools and even in the city’s National History Museum.
The announcement comes just days after a COVID advisory commission recommended vaccination for children ages 5 to 11 who have certain medical conditions or are in close contact with vulnerable people.
Young children who meet these conditions should receive two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, separated by three to six weeks, the panel said.
The panel, known by its German acronym STIKO, added that children without the aforementioned medical conditions can still receive the vaccine if they have “the particular desire” to do so, coming close to saying that all children of that age can be inoculated.
